Welcome to Covenant's Recreation Ministries. We nurture good health - spiritual and physical - through a ministry of wellness, fitness, and fun. In our Recreation Center, we offer programs to strengthen minds, bodies, and spirits, while using our facilities and events to reach out to our neighbors in Charlotte.
Due to COVID-19 regulations, the Rec Wing is closed. See below for details on outdoor classes.

Hiking group returns in august - join us in matthews!

When: Saturday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. or Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Groups are limited to 25 per session and participants will be screened and asked to wear a mask as we gather before the hike.

Where to meet: Purser-Hulsey Park is located at 13201 Phillips Rd., Matthews, NC, 28105. The drive is approximately 30 minutes from uptown. Note: There are no restroom facilities; plan accordingly.

What to expect: The natural surface, gently undulating Painted Rock Trail is a 1.5 mile loop. This trail is heavily shaded and lined with fun, clever painted rock trail markers. Midway through, we’ll tack on an additional half-mile hike through the Enchanted Forest Trail, a beautiful sidetrack through a stretch of tall pines.

What to bring:

•Water and snacks
•Hats, sunscreen and sunglasses

Rec Wing offers outdoor fitness classes in july

Drop by for 45-minute classes led by Kevin Harper featuring body weight and calisthenics-style workouts for the major muscle groups. All fitness levels are welcome. Please bring a mat, towel and water. Cost is $5. As a reminder, the building is closed due to COVID-19 regulations 

Boys Zoom Summer Camp

Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for boys in grades 3-5

A four-week Zoom camp led by Kevin Harper will focus on sports, fitness, science and nature, offering a way to enjoy time with friends while learning how God is present in the fun parts of our lives. To keep our time via Zoom safe, we are asking participants to register through Shelby by clicking here. 

The Rec Wing building is currently closed due to COVID-19 regulations.

Recreation Membership

 With membership, you gain access to the weight room, track, lockers, showers and basketball court. Contact Director Kevin Harper to sign up.
Membership is not necessary to participate in fitness classes though some classes do require a fee.

* Daily Fee:  $1 per visit
* Student:  $25 per year
* Senior Adult (55+):  $25 per year
* Individual (ages 12-54):  $50 per year
* Household Individuals (residing at same address): $75 per year

Public Rates
* Daily Guest Fee:  $3 per visit
* Student:  $180 per year or $15 per month
* Senior Adult (55+):  $180 year or $15 per month
* Individual (ages 12-54):  $240 year or $20 per month
* Household Individuals (residing at same address):   $360 per year or $30 per month

Group Exercise & Training & Classes

Times, and price packages vary.  First class free!  
Personal Training: Our certified trainers offer one-on-one, buddy, and small group personal training. Fees vary.

Functional Fitness for Adults 60+: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 9:30 - 10:30 am  Exercise under the guidance of a licensed physical therapist. First Class Free!

Total Body Training: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-10am. Work out your entire body utilizing weights, bars, bands, balls, your body, and the environment.  First class free, then only $8 drop-in fee.

Stroller Strides:  A total fitness program that parents can do with their babies. It includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller, and the environment.  Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 10:45am-11:45am.  For more information see their website at Fit4mom Meet in the Rec Center Lobby.

Devoted Fitness: Jesus music, ladies dancing, sweating, and praising... That's Devoted Fitness!  Group fitness for your soul. We minister to others through faith, fitness, and fellowship.

Body Back: Under the Stroller Strides umbrella, Body Back® is a results-based workout designed for moms who want their body back; whether they just had a baby or their last child was born twenty years ago!

Hip-Hop Fitness: Hip Hop Fitness uses simple hip hop moves combined with upbeat music to keep you moving the whole time. Hip Hop is a great class to get your cardio workout, and have fun while doing it


Deep Stretch, Yin Flow:  A class designed to connect movement with breath, repeating movements and holding for longer periods to build strength and lengthen muscles.

Yoga + Prayer: Covenant Yoga is experiential worship specifically created to deepen your connection to Christ.  Our sole  purpose is to combine world class yoga with a Christ honoring experience that offers an opportunity to believers and non-believers alike to authentically connect with God

Gentle & Relax Yoga:
First Class Free! Beginners always welcome... mats, blocks and straps provided.      

Seated Yoga: Great class for the older folks!

Afternoon Yoga: Start the weekend off the right way.  Reduce the stress from the week while gaing strength and stamina.

Private Yoga: One on one yoga sessions with Stephanie Jeon.


45+ Pick-Up Basketball: Sundays 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

Basketball Court Rentals: Looking for a court so your group or business can have weekly basketball games?  We are your place! Rates vary. Contact us today about your gym rental needs.

Youth Basketball League:  A Covenant tradition returns! We welcome ages 5 to 18. Applications are due by Oct. 18. Practices begin the week of Nov. 3. First games are Dec. 7 and continue through February. Click here for the registration form.

Party Rentals
Rent our facility for your child's birthday, holiday, sports, movie theater, or dance party! Have full use of the court, dining/activity area and game room.  Balls, scooters, skates, parachute, and more!  Two hour block of time.  Cost for members is $75, for non-members cost is $115.  Bounce houses available for $45.

Youth Basketball League
Youth fall/winter basketball league with Playbook for Life.  Registration runs September through early October.
Discovery Afternoon
Extend the daily preschool curriculum while exploring science and the arts while discovering the world around us.

Soccer Shots
Introduce your child to the joys of soccer with Soccer Shots!

Summer Camps
We have you covered from basketball, soccer, art, music, yoga and preschool!

Coed Adult Sports Leagues
During the year we offer kickball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and flag football.
