Covenant Presbyterian Church - Charlotte, NC

Congregational care

spiritual, emotional and physical health

Covenant nurtures health through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Congregational Care Ministries

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are trained, listening friends who can bring the caring presence of the church to those experiencing difficult life situations, large or small. First and foremost, Stephen Ministers offer a confidential, faith-based, caring one-on-one relationship. This ministry is designed to offer help in the midst of a challenging time:  death, loss of a job, life transition, illness, divorce, empty nest, isolation, and more.

Stephen Ministers are lay leaders of the church, equipped to serve as a caring presence for members in need of healing love, support, encouragement and compassion.

If you or someone you know might like to be paired with a Stephen Minister, contact Katherine Kerr.

Grief Support Groups

Covenant periodically hosts Grief Support Groups for members and friends.  Please contact Katherine Kerr to learn more.

Caregiver Support Group

Connect with peers and learn helpful ways to take care of yourself as you care for a loved one. If you are interested in participating in this group, contact Karen Willis (704.804.7561).

Surviving Our Spouses

Covenant's Surviving Our Spouses (SOS) group cordially invites all widows and widowers to take part in virtual and in-person, socially distanced fellowship opportunities throughout the year.  More information here.

Intercessory Prayer

Submit an intercessory prayer request, and be assured that Covenant ministers will handle it with compassion and confidentiality. Please include your name, e-mail address and/or phone number if you would like to be contacted by a minister.  Click here to request a prayer or to join the group.

Health & Wellness Committee

The Health and Wellness Committee offers activities and programs which support the optimization of health in mind, body and spirit. They offer four annual blood drives through the American Red Cross, flu shot clinics at the church in the fall and frequent programs related to wellness.

Covenant Cares (Bereavement)

This ministry provides support to church members and their families at the time of death through cards, meals, hospitality supplies for the home, and support at memorial services and funerals.

Hospitalizations

If you, a member of your family, or a church friend are hospitalized, please contact the church office to let us know! Include the hospital, the room number, and the nature of the hospitalization if possible. If this is an emergency and after hours, call the church office and listen to the message to leave urgent information for the minister on call: 704.333.9071.

Home Visits

The pastoral staff, the parish nurse, and lay members of our visitation teams call on members of our congregation who are known to be chronically ill or otherwise unable to attend church. Home communion can be arranged, and telephone calls and visits are regularly scheduled for homebound members and those in nursing homes.

Covenant Crew

A group of volunteers work quarterly to help members with minor home repairs maintenance jobs.  Contact Katherine Kerr if you'd like to volunteer or need assistance.

Local Mental Health Resources

Are you or someone you love dealing with mental health challenges? You're not alone. Many people in our community are struggling with anxiety, depression and other issues. We're here to help, as well as provide advice on resources outside of our church.

TLC (Travel, Learn, Connect)

This group of active adults enjoys a monthly journey through Charlotte and the surrounding areas where they visit museums and parks, take part in workshops or sometimes see a play. Outings usually include lunch but always involves fellowship and Congregation. To learn more, contact Michelle Williamson.

Outdoor Ministry

Join Covenant friends for practical opportunities to experience nature; deepen relationships with the church, each other and our natural surroundings; and grow in faithful stewardship of the environment. We do this through:
  • Community Connection: We use nature and the environment as a universal context to foster relationships within and beyond the Covenant community.
  • Earth Care/Sustainability: We examine and put into practice our spiritual convictions about taking care of the environment, both on the Covenant campus and within our local community.
  • Eco-theology: We provide programming and curriculum to enhance ecological and environmental knowledge with a biblical, spiritual and theological emphasis.
  • Fresh Air and Fellowship: We provide people of all ages and life stages a simple, compelling, low-barrier-to-entry option for nurturing their physical health and for building their relationships with and through the church through fellowship.
