Ending Gun Violence with All Our Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength

Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
February 5 - 26 in Chapel and live-streamed on our website, Facebook, and Youtube
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, violent crime in Charlotte was up three percent in 2024. Rather than resort to fear, we will respond with faith. Join us on Wednesday nights throughout February for a four-part series, “Ending Gun Violence with All Our Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength.”

February 5 - Heart
Speaker:
Samantha Zander and Delilah Montalvo
After pleading guilty of first-degree murder for her role in the death of her fiancé, Samantha graduated from the residential program at Center for Community Transitions. During her time there, Samantha met Delilah, CCT’s Program Director who had previously served as a Correctional Officer. Both women have stories that will break your heart then mend it, inviting us to reconsider gun violence as a matter of the heart.
February 12 - Soul
Speaker:
 Jimmy Greene
Jimmy Greene is a Grammy-nominated musician and one of the most respected saxophonists of his generation. Following the murder of his daughter, Ana Grace Marquez Greene, in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, Jimmy wrote Beautiful Life. On February 12, Jimmy will share his story: of his daughter's life, the grief following her death, and the faith that anchored his soul to God. Join us for this special evening to hear Jimmy's soulful testimony of life, death, and the gospel of resurrection.
February 19 - Mind
Speaker: Major Bret Balamucki
Major Bret Balamucki is the Southeast Service Area Commander with the CMPD, overseeing all police activity in the Central, Eastway, Independence, and Providence areas of Charlotte. On February 19, he will give an overview of gun violence in our city as well as CMPD's responses to crime. In this third session, we will approach the issue with our minds, learning both the scope of our city's gun violence issue and the shape of our hope for peace.
February 26 - Strength
Speaker: Grier Martin
Charlotte native and Davidson College alum, David Grier Martin III is the North Carolina Secretary of Military and Veterans Affairs. For 17 years, Grier served as a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly, representing the state's 34th district. As a veteran, an attorney, and a legislator, Grier has multifaceted expertise in the topic of gun violence. Join us on February 26 for the final session, learning from Grier how we can use our strength to make peace.
